Resurrection is the Natural End of Sacrifice
All throughout this week of Great Lent in the Byzantine Rite we venerate the Holy Cross, following it's veneration this past Sunday. At the end of every liturgy we chant the following thrice before the cross with a prostration each time:
Krestu Tvoyemu poklanyayemsya Vladiko, i svyatoye voskreseniye Tvoye slavim.
We bow before Thy Cross O Master, and glorify Thy holy resurrection.
We bow to and accept whatever crosses Our Blessed Lord sends us so that we might share in and glorify His Holy Resurrection. If we participate in His Cross we will come to participate in His Resurrection. Resurrection is the natural end of sacrifice. If we give ourselves to God and submit to the nothingness and sacrifice He sends us, we will receive the full bounty of the Lord's goodness. It the the most counter-intuitive thing from the world's point of view, but from God's point of view, it makes perfect sense. Resurrection is the natural end of sacrifice.
