The Sacrifice of Obedience
Feast of the Encounter of Our Lord with St. Simeon the God-receiver and St. Anna the Prophetess - II Class
Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary - II Class
Hail, full of grace, Virgin Mother of God, for from thee there dawned the Sun of righteousness, Christ our God, who enlightens those in darkness. Be glad too, righteous Elder, for thou didst received in thy embrace the Liberator of our souls, who grants us also resurrection.
O Christ Our God, through Thy birth Thou didst sanctify the Virgin's womb; and blessed, as it was proper, the hands of Simeon. Today, Thou hast come to bring us deliverance. Give peace to nations at war, and strengthen our civil authrorities, for You alone art the Lover of mankind.
Behold the humility of the Theotokos: she offers the sacrifice of obedience to the law when she was immaculate and had no need of purification. Behold the humility of the Anointed Bridgroom: as a part of the emptying of Himself and taking the form of a slave without any loss of His Divine Majesty in a sacrifice of Himself for His Ecclesial Bride, He submits Himself to the law He Himself promulgated for His servants, before consummating His Holy Sacrifice on the Marriage Bed of the Church, the Holy and Life-giving Cross.
