Diary of St. Faustina, 1107That's it folks. That's all the Catholic faith is about: intimate union with God in prayer. That's the whole of the Catholic faith right there. Developing that relationship is the sole foundation for the entire Catholic life. It's the only goal of the Catholic faith. It begins in this life but only reaches it's perfection in the next. Intimate union with God in prayer is not the most important thing, it's the only thing. Without it, everything else fails. You cannot love neighbor or anything else if you don't love God first. The success of everything in the Church hinges on this one point. If this union succeeds, all else will succeed, because God will sustain you. If this fails, all else will fail, as God is lacking. The same way a house will fail without a foundation, so too a Catholic will fail without a prayer life.
Neither graces, nor revelations, nor raptures, nor gifts granted to a soul make it perfect, but
rather the intimate union of the soul with God.
