What Jesus Actually Looked Like

While it is Passiontide and statues are to be veiled, it is none the less a good time to look at these statues of the passion. First here is a statue in Rome of Christ based on the Holy Shroud. It is no more than the image on the Holy Shroud in statue form:

Now for comparison, here is our titular statue:

The former statue is of course Christ's actual face (albeit limp because He's dead in that image) and while the latter isn't a perfect copy of Our Blessed Lord's Face, the differences are minor. The fact that His cheeks are puffier in the second is expected because He's still alive in the second. For centuries, passionate Azoreans have been saying that the statue of Santo Cristo is the most exact replica of Christ's actual face. It's not perfect, but it's pretty darn close.
